STEWARTSVILLE, Mo. -- To the uninitiated, it was a slightly bizarre sight to witness at a summer camp. "Way to go! You shot the target in half!" exclaimed a camp volunteer, helping a special needs "camper" experience the thrill of riddling a target at the makeshift paintball range. Enthusiasm Soars At Camp Guardian

STEWARTSVILLE, Mo. - It was the fourth day of activities Thursday at Camp Guardian, and the kids were still excited. Campers with special needs come from across the state for the one-week experience that includes boating, fishing, archery, BB-gun target practice, paintball, swimming, and arts and crafts. Camp Guardian Continues To Touch Lives Of Campers And Volunteers

For over 30 years, National Guardmembers, family and friends, have helped provide camping and learning experiences for special needs children and adults at Camp Guardian. According to camp co-directors Wanda Hrenchir and Julie Brenton, 90 percent of the camp's volunteers serve with the National Guard or are family members of Guardsmen.
